>iPad 2: In Detail

>

The iPad 2 is going to be released in March 2nd 2011. Engadget is one of many to receive an invitation to Apple’s release of the iPad 2. Here is a preview of what the iPad 2 may look like:
It is speculated to have the following features:
  • Front facing 1.3mp 720p camera (HD facetime calls & PhotoBooth app to be announced (see below))
  • Rear facing 5mp 720p camera with LED flash (iMovie HD to be released)
  • Dual core 1.4Ghz Apple A4 processor
  • HD retina display (similar to the iPhone 4)
  • 32gb, 64gb or 128gb flash memory
  • Three-axis gyro (previously seen in the iPhone 4 & iPod Touch)
  • Stereo speakers
  • SD card slot
  • Same unibody design as previous generation (therefore will work with current docks and accessories)
  • Built in vibrator (for silent email alerts)
  • 3G model will have the ability to send phone calls
Here is an iPad 2 Case:

Here is a screenshot from the iPad 2 homescreen. This evidence proves that the next iPad will carry a front facing camera as well as the Apple Camera App and Photo Booth App:

Engadget was given the following invitation from Apple:

>Will Thunderbolt replace USB 3.0?

>USB 3.0 is relatively new, and with the newer Thunderbolt promising faster speeds (Thunderbolt is 20 times faster than USB 2.0, whereas USB 3.0 is only 10 times faster) it seems as if USB 3.0 will be short lived.

This ‘fight’ is similar to the one between Blu-ray and HD DVD, where the more expensive yet better quality Blu-ray won. Applevine predicts that the faster Thunderbolt port will start to replace the slower USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 ports, unless USB strikes back with a 4.0! But one can only wait to be sure of the answer!

>BREAKING NEWS: NEW MACBOOK PRO JUST RELEASED!!!!!!

>Just as we speculated they will be getting the new Intel Sandy Bridge Core i3, i5 and i7 processors, AMD 6000M graphics (no NVIDIA), and the superfast Thunderbolt port!!!!

There is a HD facetime camera, Gigabit Ethernet port, Firewire 800 port, Two usb ports, thunderbolt port which supports up to 10 Gps!!!, Audio line in and out, and of course the SDXC card slot.

MORE ABOUT THE THUNDERBOLT PORT

This port allows you to access streams of uncompressed HD video from the macbook at speeds whichwill allow you to edit them in real time. It is able to connect the next high-performance peripherals to the next generation of computers, starting with the macbook pro. The Thunderbolt port is TWELVE, yes twelve times faster than a firewire port & TWENTY times faster than USB 2.0. The thunderbolt port will enable a user to daisy chain up to SIX devices including monitors or televisions. This port is like a human compared to an ape (USB)!

THE PROCESSOR

The 13-inch MacBook Pro now features a 2.3GHz Intel Core i5 processor OR the 2.7GHz Intel Core i7These processors Turbo Boost speeds up to 3.4GHz, allowing the 13-inch MacBook Pro to perform up to twice as fast as the previous generation. But Apple “couldn’t leave fast alone”. As the new 15 & 17inch models are able to have a 2.3GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 processor — with Turbo Boost speeds up to3.4GHz and up to 8MB of shared L3 cache. These MacBooks are now able to tackle the most power hungry jobs around!

THE GRAPHICS

The whole macbook pro line up has the intergrated Intel HD Graphics 3000 processor, which can encode video quickly and efficiently, therefore maximising playback. But for graphical intensive applications the 15 & 17 inch Macbook Pro models switch to AMD Radeon graphics processors, which let you see more fps in 3D games  or on HD video projects!

OVERALL

To conclude, the new macbook pro excels in all areas over the previous model. If you have been holding off to buy a new mac, this is the right time to buy.

>Will the iPad 2 overcome the competition?

>This year will be dubbed by technology enthusiasts as the year of the tablets. For apple’s iPad with have fierce competition from palm, android devices (motorola xoom, samsung) and HTC. All these machines contain high end processors and have a large storage space. But Apple promises to beat them as the iPad’s predicted specs are simply staggering, and knowing apple there will be an extra surprise (perhaps NFC). SCROLL UP FOR THE FULL SPECS OF THE IPAD 2.

>The Macbook Air: Is it a suitable computer or just a fashionable possession?

>The macbook air was updated last october, but many people are asking if it is a suitable replacement for their old computer, as some of the components inside it could be beaten by a new phone (11inch model only has a 1.4ghz intel core duo processor)! But surprisingly it can easily handle games and photo and video editing. This is due to the high end graphics card (the same one used in the macbook pros) and a flash memory drive. This allows it to have a record breaking time of 30 days in sleep mode. But having flash memory is not just a good thing, as part of the macbooks air’s high price is due to flash memory’s expensive cost. However the macbook air has a brilliant battery life of about 6 hours and has a very high resolution screen which is a joy to look at. Furthermore, no laptop or netbook can rival the Air’s beautiful unibody design. But its design comprises its ability for it does not have an optical drive.

The Pros

  • Lightweight unibody design
  • Flash memory
  • High-resolution screen

The Cons

  • Very Expensive
  • No optical drive
  • Small amount of storage

To conclude, the macbook air is a brilliant machine, but one which apple has to knock off a few hundred pounds off its price tag in order to make it a sensible choice for a new mac. At the moment though it is best to wait for the new macbook pro which is expected to come out tomorrow. Stay tuned as applevine will give you a full review and the pros and cons.

>The Mac App Store: Rome Total War Review

>With the arrival of the Mac App Store games are becoming more accessible to macintosh users. One top hit on the Store is Rome Total War and we have been testing it’s performance.

The Pros

  • Brilliant Gameplay
  • Accurate Historical Battles
  • Support for older macs
  • Barbarian Invasion included

The Cons

  • Poor Graphics
  • Frame Rate low at times
  • A few Bugs (screen becomes negative when off map)

Even though Total War may be a few years old and the graphics are slightly outdated, its addicting gameplay cannot be beaten.

Rating: 8/10

It is nearly a year since the macbooks have been updated and are looking slightly outdated with their competitors.
